Copenhagen’s planning department has commissioned Danish architects Tredje Natur and PK3 to come up with an eco-conscious proposal to develop a network of artificial islands that will transform the city’s harbour into a recreational area, complete with wildlife and water sports.
The House of Water will be the first of the five zones
to be created, an area comprising of curving concrete islands that are accessed
by a wooden jetty.
Bird Island will be the second zone and as the name
suggests the area will provide a green, plant-covered habitat for birds and
other small animals.
A third
island will feature a harbour bath with heated inlet pools and sauna caves.
A fourth island
will be dedicated to music and performance and a fifth island will
be reserved
for water sports such as kayaking and swimming.
Floating
pathways and bridges will connect the new islands, making them accessible from
several locations around the city.
